Huge reason — probably? — for the big swing of seats in the #BCElection: Absolutely abysmal 48% turnout.
Possibly lowest ever.
This was not a giant wave of enthusiastic change makers. This was more like a very tired and possibly cynical shrug…

Saddened by the election, but not looking for reasons. Those are for the next generation of progressive politicians to examine.
Instead, I am looking ahead to what the actions of this party will be.
I **am** concerned about comments by Aaron Gunn, and an unresolved constitutional issue in the #BCCons - aiui, it is entirely possible M Gunn will be the premier of BC as soon as they can arrange a by-election.
@chris I believe that history will show that western oligarchs have nearly perfected the art of manipulating our information spaces in order to influence election outcomes at arms length.
*Except Elon Musk, who seems perfectly willing to slather it all over face.
@chris Could it be the lowest turnout since Confederation anywhere in Canada?
@EdwinG could be. It’s pretty damn bad.
@StaceyCornelius @EdwinG but could still be the worst in BC history. I’m sure some news org will dig up the stat from Elections BC.
@StaceyCornelius @EdwinG almost like there is a pattern here…
@chris Have to wonder if any election with voter turnout below 50% should even be considered valid. Australia and others have mandatory voting.
