@baldur Have you read Ed Zitron "Wheresyoured.at"?

@baldur « it’s because of all the people who are sabotaging their employers AI strategy »
@baldur Arguably, with the exception of NVidia, there's been no payoff inside tech, either. Just massive, massive debt.
@jasongorman That's a good point.
@baldur > AI may be a great calculator
It famously fails at tasks that a pocket calculator handles with absolutely no errors 🫠
This was kinda obvious right at the start of the bubble.
It's too variable, unreliable, and nondeterministic to truly improve productivity.
Mass-automating mediocrity in both coding and media destroys value and doesn't create it.
Sabotaging education and knowledge work will, in the long term, cause serious economic harm, but in the present it's providing hot air for a bubble
@baldur It destroys value, which is bad for the national economy, but it makes certain influential people richer, so it will go ahead, like you already laid out in one of your recent blog posts, no?
That it seems to cause deskilling in tech and knowledge work is another ticking time bomb, but I think it'll take a few years for the true impact of that to hit the economy.
@baldur I think it would be unreasonable to completely change productivity in just a couple of years. You don't replace humans with machines *directly*, you have to alter the means of production to accommodate them: The cotton mills of the industrial revolution weren't filled with cottage-sized hand looms operated by robots.
The reason for the rush is that the tech bros need to pay off their debts quickly, so they can't wait for everyone to become productive, they need to fake it.
@baldur maybe some parts of the world permanently lose skills for decades/centuries (although I suspect East Asian countries may already be choosing to retain traditional skills but this is hidden from the West due to language barriers)
@vfrmedia Yeah. There's plenty of recent precedence in manufacturing as well. Quite a few things that many western countries just couldn't manufacture again even if they wanted to.
ah, but you see, surely, had you tried this week's latest shmimoseekLP-63 21-75 on sudden death mode, you would have known we did infact reach Artificial Super Smarts just this Thursday!
