decided to try brid.gy to link fedi account to AT since it's unlikely we will ever seriously be active on bsky
like to be clear we highly sympathise with folks who look at the state of fedi moderation and give up and go to bsky
we just hate that bsky is inherently a protocol designed to slurp up as much data as possible for corpos first, slosh posts around using opaque schemes ("algorithmically") second, and forge social connections last
oh, and the emphasis on a domain per person rather than users under a domain kinda encourages web landlordism but that's a talk for another time
fedi forges social connections well but it relies heavily on expensive community infrastructure both technologically and socially and unfortunately due to our society we tend to optimise for the technological expense moreso than the social expense, which means that the social expenses are paid in terms of burnout, severed connections, and mass harassment
ultimately it's easier to deal with a faceless corporation who is bad than a bunch of individual people whose names you know who are bad, and that's frustrating but understandable
@clarfonthey I am honestly open to revisiting both of these decisions at any time; they were made largely by informal consensus several years ago now, and circumstances are changing faster than that.
@woozle
I figured tbh, mostly just a bit exhausted atm to talk about it
maybe later
which admittedly is kinda weird since we don't even silence mastodon.social (it's unrestricted) but bsky.brid.gy is suspended and you can't even opt into interactions via it
admittedly this is one of the main mod decisions we disagree with here, since our opinion is to just block every unmoderated instance and eugen is 100% personally responsible for every connection severed as a result of mastodon.social being blocked
