I finished high school in three years and college in three. I was in a rush. I get it. But I don't want to see an explosion of college lite for I fear vocational courses will win over humanities and social sciences; I wish I'd studied more of both.
NYU: My university is proposing to offer shorter degrees. Others should follow suit. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/10/23/colleges-should-offer-three-year-degrees/

@jeffjarvis I wished I'd taken a lighter course load and spent an extra year at univ. Knowledge needs time to sink in and get amalgamated in your brain. If you just cram and rush and cram and rush, you end up with spaghetti for brains, IMO.
@jeffjarvis Congratulations, NYU, you have reinvented the associate’s degree plus certification.

Your concern about "college lite" is wise. Thanks for that comment. Also, it is appropriate to reconsider how education is packaged.
There are already many roads to a "college degree". You finished in 3 years. I took 4, but earned 2 BS degrees, meeting the requirements of both. Others take more than 4 years, while working full-time and/or raising family. The "4-year degree" is a good "average" package for those who are exploring, rather than hurtling to a narrow goal.
