I'm bringing back greeting people in the streets. I have thus far good-morning'd 6 unsuspecting folk of my local community and have achieved a 100% hit rate. I cannot be stopped. I am the friendly neighbourhood....Goodmorning-Man. Goodmorning-Man, Goodmorning-Man. Does whatever a goodmorning can.
@TheBreadmonkey this is actually one of the things that I love about the part of Los Angeles where I am. I come from small town stock, so footpath “Hello’s” are as normal as breathing to me and it’s nice to have them reciprocated here. I’ve even had several conversations with people who stop to chat when I’m out the front working in the garden.
@TheBreadmonkey fairly normal here (Highlands of Scotland), except on the main road through town (too busy). Hi.
And you can tell the tourists, they either blank you, or say a hurried Oh hello.
@TheBreadmonkey im doing what I can to bring back the farmer wave. You make eye contact and it’s just one or two fingers raised from the top of the wheel with a slight nod. Most people at least try to return it.
@TheBreadmonkey This is common where I live in SE PA and I was unprepared when I first moved here 😂
As a northerner living in Italy, it took me some time to get used to greet people I don't know in my neighbourhood, but the norm is to greet those you recognise as of the neighbourhood, even if you've never talked to them.
It's quite nice and gives a good sense of belonging, even if I'm a newcomer around here, after only just ten years :-)
@TheBreadmonkey it works if there are only a very few people, but constantly saying it in a busy street might be uncomfortable
@TheBreadmonkey you win when you get the Gandalf reply:
"What do you mean? Do you mean to wish me a good morning or do you mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not? Or perhaps you mean to say that you feel good on this particular morning. Or are you simply stating that this is a morning to be good on?"
@TheBreadmonkey
Mrs. Joe and I used to do that. We’d walk to the neighborhood coffee shop of a morning and say hi to folks along the way. We discovered that it worked best, when it was a woman approaching us, for my wife to speak first.
@TheBreadmonkey
Glad to read that.
Keep it going - and let's make it pandemic.
@TheBreadmonkey I reckon you could be a goodmorningsman, like batsman or outdoorsman
I live in the country and you have to greet anyone over the age of 18. Failure to do so is borderline antisocial behaviour.
@TheBreadmonkey like, 100% of people have hit you?
@TheBreadmonkey Goood Ben!
I do this by default for years now and I love it😸
@TheBreadmonkey Define "hit" rate. Sounds dangerous.
