why is liking your own comment even a thing?
I’m extraordinarily not fond of self boosts, too.
@chessert i do boost on posts that I feel w/in 24 hours haven't gotten enough repost love or that I feel are urgent enough that they deserve RT'ing.
I don’t object to singular boosts like that. But if multiple (6x) boosts appear in my Home feed, I’m unfollowing you. Thems my rules, Pardner. 😉
@briankrebs Sometimes we deserve to take pride in the phenomenal shitposting we produce
@briankrebs There're a lot of sickos out there and I personally appreciate when they identify themselves
@briankrebs I've often wondered. I'd be ashamed to like or boost my own comments or posts. I mean, you have to have SOME pride!
If you like your own posts too much you might go blind.
@briankrebs you should like yourself because you're good enough, you're smart enough and doggoneit people like you
(i agree it's weird)
prevents automatic post deletion
@briankrebs
Feels like a special case you'd have to explicitly code out, and going out of your way to do that feels like it would be a buzzkill
@briankrebs Prevents autodeletion of your post on some AP programs.
@briankrebs Get's the ball rolling...
I mean, I might boost this post, but I'm sure as hell not going to like it. Am I weird or what?
@briankrebs hey, whats the special event going on in DC on the 25th?
@briankrebs yeah but the fun kind of weird that makes me smile
@briankrebs Boosting one’s own post has a visibility feature in the fediverse. In the first mobile iterations of the apps, bookmarks had been absent, so some people used the stars—which are actually favs—as bookmark alternatives. And sometimes they were also used as an ambiguous way to weasel oneself out when people misunderstood the fav. This is how I understand it.
@nemo Thanks. I had no idea the nuances....
@briankrebs The Fediverse is sooo complex that, due to its open-source nature, interoperability can even have issues, as can visibility. The experts here know 1,000 times more than me about the nuances. I’m just nerding out, learning, and trying to be an OK netizen and fedizen :D
You're Sir.
SIncerely.
@briankrebs
I honestly wonder if I have ever accidentally done it to one of mine. I definitely haven't intentionally, but...
It's just such an odd thing. 'let me get this started, it's so brilliant '
@briankrebs it's okay not to think about it.
@briankrebs I’m now going to assume most people hate most of their own posts unless…
@briankrebs to show appreciation to the AI that wrote the comment on your behalf
@briankrebs I'm not an expert but I know what I like. 😉
@briankrebs I know here at least for those who have deletion on, you can like your own comment to preserve it.
@briankrebs I dunno, but now I have to do it..,
