The #4opens are simple: open code, open data, open standards and open process. They let you check claims instead of trusting marketing. Can you inspect the software, access your data, move between platforms and see how decisions are made?
Think of it as a trust filter. But openness alone isn't enough: check whether people use the project and whether it's still maintained. #FOSS #OpenWeb #OMN
@lexoyo on that subject - At #OMN, we're working to compost the #techdebt problem using federation and the #4opens. Build apps around shared data flows, not locked-in codebases, and the data stays useful across different projects.
The code becomes a golden ladle in a #witchescauldron: a utensil for shaping and serving the shared data, not a container that owns it. New codebase? Let the flows move across. Less tech debt, less churn, more reuse. #KISS #FOSS #OpenWeb
@hamishcampbell That maintenance check is the part I see skipped most often. Open code makes a project inspectable, but without active releases and reachable maintainers it can still become operational debt. I’d add reproducible builds and reliable export paths to the checklist.

@hamishcampbell maybe check for technical debt and ai slop these days too😅
