Some Dem House members are saying they don't favor impeachment because they won't have the votes in the Senate for removal.
This is a fundamental misunderstanding of their role as defenders of democracy and the rule of law. The purpose of impeachment is to reveal and establish the facts of high crimes and misdemeanors, and to render judgement. It is an obligation, not an option.
The second phase is the penalty phase, akin to sentencing. Concern about severity of the sentence is not their job.

Simply establishing the facts, cross examining witnesses under oath, collecting the documents, and publicizing them, is the mission of the next Congress. We can get a two year head start on collecting evidence for whatever court or tribunal eventually sits in judgement.
More than that, we have to use impeachment as a political weapon. Every Democratic candidate has to be confronted with that record of crimes and commit to Nuremberg 2.
The coward caucus will be smaller in ‘27.

and once that guy leaves office there will be a big push from Dem leadership to "move on" and very little will done to investigate or punish that guy.
Not necessarily. The past does not dictate the future. We are electing (hopefully) a new crop of progressive leaders. Step 1 will be for them to replace leadership with fighters. Step 2 will be to bring the heat. Just because congressional Dems have failed to deliver in the past does not mean we they are fated to fail now. We must demand they do not fail us now.

nothing is set in stone and anything is possible, that's true. i hope it works out the way you say... believe me.
Then they need to go too. We need people who will fight for democracy and the rule of law with every ounce of power we have entrusted to them.

If all of us in the streets had followed their logic we'd be re-running the Holocaust right now. We have been fighting because it was the right thing to do, because it was the only thing to do, not because victory was guaranteed served up with a little mint on our pillows too.

@mastodonmigration just heard one say they do plan to vote to impeach anyway. They don’t know what the senate vote will look like yet, but they expect a few Rs to vote with them.
