What an absolute whirlwind of a week. Between anxious personal feelings about people experiencing my game and watching fellow indies trying to push through the picket line of the Next Fest slop — I feel like I need to melt in sauna for a couple of weeks to recharge.
@gramps There is only one way out, and it's human curation (backed by some principles and standards for quality). But that's not Valve's modus operandi.
@yurisizov I totally agree. Steam Direct was basically the beginning of the end and the excuse "the market" would take care of it was a real cop-out. We've all seen how that went. The overall lack of responsibility for the platform is concerning, to be honest.
@gramps We can hope that the situation will start hurting them enough at some point for them to finally do something about it. Like sure, you could say all they care is money and "more games = more money", but it doesn't really work like that when customers aren't able to find games they want to buy in the sea of slop.
So there's a chance! On the other hand, they just launched a new discovery feature, so perhaps they still plan to curb the degradation of service with automation. Eh.
@yurisizov Yeah, I don't know Valve can get a grip on it and personally I feel Next Fest is just cooked at this point. I enjoyed your game and am deeply impressed by how fucking slick it is. Everything in and around this industry is emotionally taxing, recharging is always need. ✊
