We like seeing real things made by real sentient beings and I'm not going to rehash the reasons "ai" sucks.
I'm proposing we ban/ask people to not use "ai" generated avatars and banners on mastodon.radio.
I'd also like to ban/ask people to not post "ai" generated stuff - for example images/posters/code
I recognise we can't stop everything, and the whole "linux kernal" thing is an issue ...
Do you (people who use mastodon.radio specifically) have any objection to this proposal?

@M0YNG Perhaps we can require a content warning for AI generated content? I would not go as far as censoring and/or banning content or people.
We have good tools available to self-censor whatever appears on our timelines. I see tons of things and subjects on mastodon.radio that I'm not interested in, but I'm perfectly capable of filtering out what I am interested in.
Oh, and my avatar is not AI generated. 😄

I'm against AI images, but not AI code
mostly, because I feel we're past the tipping point of putting code back in the box, and that too many things are already using it that we can't easily jump away from, like Linux (as you mentioned) and likely World Radio League (WRL)
I think as the adoption of AI created/polished/etc. code increases, we're going to reach a point where we can't share anything because of AI

@M0YNG I think that would be ridiculous and will go on the record as objecting. What you're actually proposing is banning bad art, just replace "A.I." with "WordArt" or "Magic Eraser."
A.I. assisted art can be undiscernible from any other art given the experience and talent of the artist and to punish those trying to learn a new skill is very short-sighted.
@ku7pdx no, I'd rather see wordart. I think you may have skipped over all the negative aspects of "ai" and no one is learning to be an artist by using "ai"
@M0YNG Lol, might as well ban folks from using spell-check too. A.I. is just a tool like anything else. I know artists that use A.I. in their work, just like the stroke or brush tools in Photoshop. Just because people can't "tell" doesn't mean it isn't being used.
Again, you're only going to be punishing those "bad" at it.
@ku7pdx I don't think spell check is an appropriate comparison, the externalities of training and using it are negligible but the externalities of "ai" are catastrophic and all of them are owned by the worst sort of people currently on the planet - exactly the sort of people and control mastodon.radio exists to separate from.
@M0YNG I support "please not AI avatars, try something real". same for "share-pics (posters)", there are just an eye-sore. this requires careful wording, what is dreadful for some is fine for people that are "design tone deaf". Maybe a "please don't" discouragement? (1/2)
@M0YNG I don't think code should be restricted. I build stuff for my own use with heavy AI support. It works for me. I learn a few things and some may be of interest for others. I won't fancy that I can't talk about it. Some of the things are undergoing months of refinement, they have functional depth.
I understand that folks (me including) don't want to hear about the AI slop of the day, promoted by some kid with delusion of grandeur. But that is what "mute" is for, not censoring a topic IMHO

@M0YNG I often mute repeated AI posters, I don't have any objections, but I suspect the impact on the user base might be larger than expected.

@M0YNG I am discovering that I'm reacting unexpectedly strongly to this proposal, in both directions simultaneously.
I do everything I can to actively avoid using Assumed Intelligence and Unsupervised Text Extruders, but I'm not a fan of banning people.
I think a mandatory content warning is probably as far on that path as I'd be comfortable with and it's not without concern about discrimination against the poster.
I have friends who are using this and I haven't figured out how to handle it.
