Also, the new ‘deck’ layout is maddeningly confusing to use. (Ex: why does the compose box pop up at the bottom/middle?) …using it now feels simultaneously empty and cramped 🤪

I would LOVE to see the backend (settings) also be a lot more responsive, the top menu for example.. it really should stay on top when scrolling, it just takes so much time scrolling up
Even better would be to integrate the settings backend into the reactive frontend, to be honest I kinda hate it
@Gargron Is it worth doing so? How stubborn are the people on the team? How many votes would it take for them to admit it was a mistake and revert it?
Sadly, from the Mastodon Team forum replies that I see, it looks like they are only accepting refinements of what *they* already wanted to do, not changes that they personally disagree with.

@Gargron well I'd love to give feedback but I can't as I can't load the UX as my instance is not on 5.0.
I am seeing a number of issues being tooted about that I would probably want to support eg. preserving the ability to make full use advanced 4-column web interface that I use but doing so without seeing it for myself is not really fair.
Hopefully some at least of these issues will be sorted out before I land on 5.0 but perhaps you need to keep the review/revise window open until other instance users get the new UX.
@marjolica I know that there will be a beta release next week, and nightlies are already available, but I'm afraid that if social.linux.pizza only upgrades once the stable release is out, there won't be a window for feedback.
@Gargron @marjolica there's an unfortunate problem here of me not wanting to be on a server running unstable versions but also thinking the new design is bad from screenshots and impressions
Like, "investigate third party desktop clients" bad.
The fact that mastodon.social runs alpha versions has always been weird to me.
@gourd @marjolica It's not that weird when you consider that most websites don't run versioned software at all, they just change stuff from time to time. Mastodon (and other fediverse software) is the outlier.

@Gargron Just give us the option to select a "theme" (that includes the old one), problem solved.
The redesign shows that the people doing the UI/UX can't be trusted to make a universal new design for Mastodon.
Feedback on the redesign: it's bad, it's buggy (even settings are broken!). I will use Mastodon less because of it.
I'm not making a new account somewhere to give you feedback, most issues are very obvious and should never have been added.
