Crimestoppers is an institution and often trusted by reporters' lives.
A breach of this is indescribable.
These systems are supposed to be air-gapped and kept in completely separate rooms, away from any other technology. When I did the EPS Citizen's Police Academy, Crimestoppers prided itself on anonymity. This brings it into question.
This is a complete breach of trust at the highest level, and I don't know if Crimestoppers can recover from this.
This CBC reporting doesn't go far enough. They have access to the data via DDoSecrets, but it doesn't genuinely show how many tips are in the data, what they are associated with, or the severity or extent of the impact on Canadians.
I've worked with DDoSecrets data before, and I have a good relationship with them. I will NOT touch this with a ten-foot pole. This is genuinely dangerous data.
@chad Down at the bottom, CBC says about 1.6 million tips were Canadian. Per the breachers own description (web archive link): https://web.archive.org/web/20260318044534/https://justpaste.it/internetyiffmachine, there was 8.3 million tips in total
