Harmony is an #ActivityPub powered Discord and Matrix alternative that mixes chatrooms with social networking. It's amazing.

@max@toet.dnzm.nl Matrix is notoriously difficult to implement. Props to anyone that's building better Matrix servers and Matrix clients, because it's painful.
I actually like the idea of using ActivityPub for instant messaging and chat. It's been explored a fair bit in the past, but not to this extent. It also includes a social feed and regular Fediverse posting!
@deadsuperhero Doing it through ActivityPub sounds insane haha, I'm really curious how they went about it
@deadsuperhero Interesting. Just cam across https://kallisti.chat/ an hour ago. Looks similar? Maybe different back-ends for voice/video? (Haven't looked)
@prutser@mastodon.bsd.cafe They seem to just have similar UIs. Kallisti looks like it's a frontend for Mumble, whereas Harmony is a full-fledged client and server setup with ActivityPub federation. Harmony also features a microblogging component.
@deadsuperhero Ah, super. Then I'll look into Harmony. One day 😊 . #todolist
We're going to be doing a deep-dive later this month, but you can check out the project here: mony.lol/
@deadsuperhero Basing it on AP rather than Matrix is certainly a choice. Looks like an interesting project!
