Imagine you wrote a dumb script to put some shit in your web page, because you didn't understand Perl or server-side includes which were already in Apache.
And 31 years later people are building a ton of shit on top of your dumbass script, & everything on the Internet breaks because of you.
Do you think Lerdorf feels shame?

@Crell I don't think it's even secret.
But at what cost‽ If you sold building materials made of cardboard & they routeinely collapsed when it rained, you'd feel bad, maybe? So why is PHP allowed to continue?
@mdhughes Because despite it's humble and hacky beginnings, PHP has grown into a powerful, robust, safe language trusted by a majority of the web, thanks to tens of thousands of hours of work by professional, caring developers.
All software has bugs. All software has security holes. The question is how it's handled. And the PHP security team did a superb job. (Someone else jumped the gun and caused problems.)
@Crell That is, pardon me, the most delusional description of PHP I've ever heard. It's been hack-work since the start, has never got better, & the massive technical debt just imploded.
This patch isn't the end of it, it's certainly introduced as many new vulns as it patched up. Putting some duct tape over a leaky cardboard roof doesn't make it stop leaking!
@mdhughes Ah, so you don't actually know what you're talking about, you're just hating on PHP for funsies. Cool cool. I expected that to be the case, but thank you for confirming.
@Crell I used the shit for a long time because it was preinstalled in places I needed to put stuff. But I'm also a serious software engineer, not just a halfassed idiot.
If you read other threads, you'll find out I'm actually doing somethign about this.
I know you'd like to think you're doing something here, but you're not.
