@Ooze no, fuck the system they have to survive under that makes them do this. Fuck the managers that ordered them to. Fuck the company whose business strategy required it.
Blame where blame is deserved. The workers themselves had the absolute least say in this, and the most to lose (livelihood).
@rysiek Workers have the most power to change the system, if they have solidarity. Until we can realise this and put our power into action ain't nothing going to change. Perpetuating the worker victim mentality just plays into the hands of those who don't want us to realise our power.
> Workers have the most power to change the system, if they have solidarity.
I agree!
> Until we can realise this and put our power into action ain't nothing going to change.
That too!
But how does building that necessary solidarity work if you start with "fuck the workers"?.. It doesn't, that's how.
The fact that workers have the power to change the system doesn't necessarily mean *they are to blame* for the system.
And blaming them is not going to get you what you want.
@rysiek My having said that has started a conversation wherein we acknowledged that it isn't the bosses who have the power, and found out we agree about that. We now know we have a shared goal rather than just saying fuck the bosses. This is the beginnings of solidarity.
The next step we could take is to use our power by not working for or supporting the people who we now see don't actually have the power. Then we could help other see their power.
> a conversation wherein we acknowledged that it isn't the bosses who have the power
No. We agreed that workers have most power *if* they have solidarity. This doesn't mean it isn't the bosses who have the power – bosses also have the power, and depending on the level of worker solidarity, bosses might have (and often do have) most power.
Don't twist things.
You also completely ignored the whole part about who bears *responsibility*, which is pretty damned important here.
@Ooze and if you think it is appropriate to start a conversation about workers by saying "fuck workers", I assume you will not at all mind if the workers responded with "fuck you" to your ideas about what they should or should not be doing.
And if they do, I'll stand right there with them, in solidarity.
Have a good day.
@rysiek The irony! From a person who started a conversation about bosses by saying fuck bosses. I guess it's only appropriate if one agrees with the sentiment unquestioningly.
@rysiek I sincerely hope they charge individuals responsible for their crimes. Try them and let justice have its day. Mere fines are not enough. People need to see there are repercussions to their actions and that a company can’t simply pay as a cost of doing business.
@rysiek And fuck @HennaVirkkunen who gave the green light for this abomination months ago. https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/@HennaVirkkunen/117008348161347403
@rysiek Fascists overplay their hand because they think "the law won't come for me."
@mast0d0nphan well let's see what the Finnish authorities actually do. I will agree Google overplayed their hand if:
- the construction of these datacenters is legally denied; and
- Google is forced to replant the trees; and
- somebody from Google actually personally goes to jail.
I love the story you just wrote. It has a happy ending. I hope it’s non-fiction.
That is a crime against the nature, and with our climate crisis, a crime against humanity. How dare they. Fine google. Fine them so much money that google wouldn't dare ever illegally destroy again. Make it cost them hundreds of billions of dollars. $1 billion for every tree they felled.
@rysiek Fuck the workers who did it.
