as a child I wasn't allowed to drink cola "because it dissolves your stomach from the INSIDE!!1!" I was told very convincingly.
I was however allowed one cola when eating out at the greek restaurant to much of my brother's and my delight.
I never questioned the apparent MAGIC protective power of gyros and zaziki until being an adult 😂
@sushee ...dissolves your stomach from the inside -- except, of course, for the seven-year accumulation of accidentally-swallowed chewing gum.
(I think I remember hearing both of these myths in the 1970s, but fortunately my parents -- for all their other flaws -- were very science-oriented.)
