What life did you lead? What songs did you help sing? And how did all end here on these rough streets with even your precious illegal ivory teeth plundered? And me standing by contemplating the possible utility and value of your strings, hammers and wooden bones?
@futurebird
I follow an artist in Scotland who got hold of a piano and made art out of it.

... I spoke too soon of your fall. I see now that you live ... you live again.
Always feel deeply sad over the sight of an abandoned and decrepit piano.
@futurebird Is someone underneath?
@futurebird
Maybe the zombie one can answer:

The top looks like a giant paper wasp nest.
@undead @OrangeR @futurebird yes! I was saying to myself, “please be an art installation.”
Is the work of our flying distant sisters NOT art?
@OrangeR @futurebird "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"
@futurebird @grumble209 @OrangeR "Even in the Quietest Moments"
Good lord what song was played here on these blacken'd keys?

@futurebird Can't look at this photo without being reminded of the check-fraud scam email I get at least once a week where someone is looking for a "loving home" for their baby grand piano. This pic is like meeting an actual Nigerian Prince.
If the structure would still hold, I'd remove the casing and underneath, and mount that string frame on a wall. That's beautiful design stuff. Or, in front of a window for neat shadows all day.
@futurebird
Honestly that seems like a pretty cool thing to take to school for the kids to play with, if you can manage it.
@futurebird How many cartoon coyotes are under that thing?
@futurebird reminded me of a crab exoskeleton you find on the beach. Sad.

You are always awesome but you seem more *poetically* awesome lately.
@futurebird I need you to understand their was a time when fur , ivory , etc were needed because their were no alternatives that worthwhile but now we got polymers including plastic & anything synthetic also counts
#history
@Timpostma @futurebird
Sure, but synthetic alternatives such as melamine and bakelite have been around for over a century. Trading ivory became illegal worldwide in 1989, but people knew elephants were dying out since the 1970's so morally it was wrong to use ivory well before the ban.
I wasn't making a comment about the morality of the piano ... just how old it is. And how people still collect ivory from old pianos for strange little projects which I find a little disturbing but also fascinating.
@futurebird you could always build a New York counterpart to my mate Angelo Madonna's "Tide comes in, tide goes out" artwork
Don't think his piano frame is a baby grand, mind. It slowly strikes each string over the course of the 12 hours in time with the tide here in Liverpool.
@futurebird
This is poetry! I want to imagine the piano ghost's whispered replies. The piano thrums quietly, as the wind strums its strings while uncaring cars whoosh past.
Also, this old ghost of a piano started me thinking of ghosts of family stories from before I was born. My grandma's father (a Lithuanian immigrant and skilled carpenter) worked at the Aeolian-American Piano Works in East Rochester in the 1920's - 1930's. He crafted the elegant wooden bodies of the pianos.
I wonder how many of those instruments ended their lives like the one in your haunting photo. Long gone now.
