Got up early today to catch a bit of the Orionid meteor shower. Had a killer view of Orion and it was very clear, but spotted only two shooting stars in about 20 min (one was bright green). But OMG are there a lot of satellites. They're most visible right after sunset or right before dawn and it was a bit distracting watching all the traffic. If you've not spent any time stargazing at these times lately, you might be surprised at how busy it's gotten up there.
Musk and his fossil fuel investors prepare for world war.

While hijacking the news cycle with narratives of "flying cars", Musk & his ilk gear up for reduced-latency space-based weaponry.
Why? For a white supremacist world order under the rule of oligarchs.

They don't have the ability to appreciate what is beautiful in this world,
And so they seek to destroy it for everyone else.
@briankrebs It used to be kinda cool to go out not long after sunset, get your eyes acclimated, & spot a satellite. Sigh. No longer. :-(
@briankrebs it has ruined stargazing for me
@briankrebs Sadly, we're not done. Amazon wants to deploy another 1,000 satellites for its internet service. And of course, there's Google's orbital data centers.
Maybe one of those meteorites could take some of them out.
@AAKL Yep. Don't forget every other semi-advanced nation that wants its own Starlink (like Russia)
@briankrebs Oh, for sure, there are several other countries deploying new satellites.
@briankrebs So it's not star, but satellite gazing nowadays. Yikes!
@briankrebs Brian watching the "meteor shower"
Yeah, we were talking about this over the summer. Every year, when it's warm, we spend a lot of time in the garden way after sunset, drinking, listening to music. It used to be that seeing a satellite was rare enough for a sense of "Ooh, look at that!" but it was staggering this year just to see an endless progression of them, with barely any stretches when there weren't some satellites passing overhead on some track.
@briankrebs Don't look up! /s
@briankrebs can't wait for that particular lightshow when the Kessler Syndrome finally happens.
@briankrebs meet @sundogplanets, This is her special topic and she is utterly magnificent.
@briankrebs That's the reason I've avoided it for a while now. I love the night sky but I want to remember it how it was a few years ago when it was a spectacle seeing the ISS or some lone satellite.
