Do that in primaries, where only 10% even turnout. Doing it in the general is purposely allowing the Republican to win with possibly less than 50%.

The DNC has admitted in the past that they don’t need to respect the popular vote in the primaries if they want to appoint someone else. And as the last election proved they may just not make a vote happen at all if they so please.

The establishment will deny funding and such for their own candidates if they’re progressive to undermine them. Or they’ll rally against them to ensure they fail the primary nomination a la Bernie.

The dem establishment is fully willing to throw the election if someone to the left of Biden wins the Primary. And they will rig it as hard as possible to ensure that their candidate gets in. They have no obligation to respect the vote, they can lawfully choose the candidate however they wish.
