I absolutely love the incredible work of Abandoned America @AbandonedAmerica but his work on the 'aircraft graveyard' at the AMARG: Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ is just... *something else*.
Breathtaking.

@pacman @Coolmccool there are several galleries that incorporate panos that I shot with a Gigapan, which I can no longer get batteries for. Thetas were pretty primitive at that point. Definitely could use one if someone were to donate it to the cause, though https://www.abandonedamerica.us/randall-park-mall
@AbandonedAmerica The Ricoh Theta Z1 camera costs around $990 but the GoPro MAX is around $500* and the Insta360 X5 is $550. My experience with the GoPro MAX over several years has been excellent but it is not the modern waterproof (to 16ft) version.
* GoPro MAX NEW for CHF 299 currently at https://www.ricardo.ch/de/s/GoPro%20MAX/
@Coolmccool @AbandonedAmerica In the US many years ago the APU turbines from the chopped-off tails of airliners were used to replace the engines of VW Beetles for drag racing on the Californian streets. The back seats had to be removed to make enough space. Turbines small by today's standards (100-1200 shaft horsepower) but 50x more powerful that the Beetle's engine. Hyper-wide back tires, enormous rear wheel arches. For a brief while it was legal but it was soon made illegal. What a pity !
@pacman @Coolmccool wow, that sounds incredible. Incredibly dangerous, but I bet it was exciting too. Thanks for the new fact!
Really like the sky in this one.
@tarheel @Coolmccool the skies were just incredible that day. I got so lucky - unless maybe that's just normal in AZ? I don't live there
@Coolmccool thank you very much. I was honored to be allowed to photograph there
@Coolmccool @AbandonedAmerica I just wish Abandoned America would use 360°x360°x360° photography to show the insides of those abandoned buildings. The cameras are inexpensive and very easy to use and one can "look around" the buildings and rooms instead of being restricted to 2D photos.
