The story of the Ascension of Our Lord Church in Philadelphia isn't exactly a happy one, but it does a good job of illustrating why churches close and the tragic fate that often awaits them afterwards. https://www.abandonedamerica.us/ascension-of-our-lord
@Sarcastra thank you for taking some time to explore them! I am grateful for it
@AbandonedAmerica Really interesting coverage of this building, birth to death.
Excellent writeup. That one has everything: capitalism, racism, child abuse, willful neglect of the underclass, etc. Such a gorgeous facility.
@venya thank you - and yes, it always amazes me what I find out about these places. They illustrate so much about the culture that surrounds them
@AbandonedAmerica what a beautiful building and what a shame it couldn't be rescued for a hundred different uses, brewery, community centre, anything!
@Tedre123 yeah, I agree. In Pittsburgh they turned a closed church into a restaurant/brewery and it is amazing
@AbandonedAmerica not as many are going to church, but plenty are still drinking beer, so lots of potential here.
@AbandonedAmerica thank you for putting these pictures and histories out for folks who wouldn't see or know them otherwise.
