#MySoCalledSudoLife - day 673
You haven't really lived till you try doing TWO #YunoHost system + app upgrades at the same time ๐
VPS1 - the lightweight, non critical one - did great and is now up-to-date on everything.
VPS2 - the big, critical one - didn't do so well and botched its GoToSocial and NextCloud upgrades... so I'm restoring it via a recent backup and starting over again with system upgrades...
@tobias oooh amazing! I am going to try app upgrades again this morning...
VPS snapshot -> one app upgrade at the time... if successful, repeat ๐๐
@_elena you know about tmuxโs <Ctrl> B % right? right? ๐๐คญ
@joel i do not (runs to hide).
Actually both app upgrades in tmux gave me a ยซย successful! ยป message but when I tried to open NextCloud, it returned an error message and GoToSocial showed a status as ยซย running ยป but then the interface was stuck in maintenance mode for over an hour.
So the operations were successful on the surface but threw all kinds of errors in reality (if it makes sense?) . Especially NextCloud, totally unusable.
I restored my backup and updated all packages for now ๐ฅฒ
@_elena no need to hide ๐ that allows to split the window so you can run commands side to side; and you donโt need two different Terminal apps.
My $daughter had YuniHost installed at a Paris Install Party and seemed to like it. But when I tested it on a spare machine, I was not that enthusiastic. But Iโm used to operating those from the cave so ๐ That said, the web interface is quite friendly.
@joel oh each Terminal window represented a different VPS / different installation of YunoHost - I hope I'm making sense ๐
I'll try again tomorrow re: the app upgrades. When there are enough of my Fedi friends awake and able to offer advice if I run into troubles ๐ค
thanks for the tip, sounds super cool
@_elena I see that you refer yourself to a newbie in your sudo blog series, yet I have seen NIS2 Essential entities and Serious People<tm> with much worse backup and recovery than what you're demonstrating now.
So maybe we need a better term that reflects careful-but-still-learning?
@holsta awww thank you! But I truly know *nothing* (or very little, that is, compared to a true sysadmin) ๐
Install Fedizen
Get the full app experience
@_elena Congrats on the successful (ish) upgrades! And that you had a backup you could restore to. This is a rite of passage!
I use Nextcloud AIO which provided a seamless in-app upgrade. So impressed with the AIO maintainers. ๐
Step 1: hetzner snapshot. Step 2) stop containers via AIO interface. Step 3) upgrade and restart containers. Step 4) profit!
