Absolutely true. I'm pro-AI, but please don't do this. IMO, you may use assistance when writing a complicated email to some administration or government institution, especially if your level in the official language of the country where you live is not so advanced (and still reverify what you get and ideally edit manually) — I did that when I had to write to German bureaucracy. But never write personal messages with the help of AI, really, just don't.

Pro tip: If you're using AI to message someone and trying to make it personal, as if you had written it, don't. Just don't.

That you couldn't be bothered to write it tells the reader how much you actually care. Put some effort into what you do. The absence of care is a negative differentiator.

I've found using AI to help me collect my thought and structure them on highly emotional topics to be a double edged sword, but one I found helpful.

It was a person who was very close to me who was espousing antisemitic hate and then when I called her on it, started to engage in abuse patterns.

I felt them but couldn't express it. ChatGPT helped with that.

What I responded with was somewhat stilted but I found it helpful in providing me a mechanism to bring order to my thoughts.

@serge Hm, interesting. Maybe then I'd say you can summarize but… don't know how to explain it. You know, people sometimes prompt something like "Help me to write a message to a girl/guy I like" or something like that. In such contexts, I believe, it's better to have an uneven but humane message. but here, with antisemitism and such things, yes, it might be a support.

It's not so much about antisemitism (though that was a part of it for sure) and more about putting words to a feeling.

"This feels dangerous" is a feeling but understanding the language patterns around it was helpful.

Knowing "This is antisemitic" is helpful but it can be hard to put it into neutral words, even for someone who does it all the time like I do.

I don't want people writing AI back and forth but I think it can be helpful in some situations to run things by an AI for help.
