Here's the decision chart for companies when it comes to selecting languages:
1. Is it a website? => PHP with Frontend templating
2. Is it a website but you only have Frontend devs, or do you plan to only hire "full stacks"? JS/TS
3. Is it a software being sold? Are you pro-Microsoft? If yes, .NET, if no, Java

@sanek but what about go
@xian Go? More like Go home and find a true corporate enterprise scalable language
@sanek if it's a girl, .net, if it's a boy, java
@lain During my last contract, there was a backend guy that hated me for the usual reasons (being a devops) and the guy was so pro-Microsoft that he HATED me for not liking it. Bro loved .NET and kept pushing for components of .NET that wouldn't make any sense in the product architecture.
Thing is, whenever I found a bug in the software, he was so much on the defensive every single time that I'd have to write him a blog post with links to official Microsoft documentations to prove him that I'm not in fact being an ass and Microsoft says so (the latter being usually enough to make him change his mind)
