When are you supposed to grow up? Does it happen naturally or do you have to work at it, like dance?
@TheBreadmonkey Guess it depends on your definition. Been acquainted with people in their 70s and 80s who had a more youthful spirit than folks half their age.
@TheBreadmonkey there’s no particular time, I think. Sometimes a big pile of nonsense falls into your lap and there’s only one person who can address it. The exhausting, confusing, brain-fucking you endure results, unwittingly, in adulting. Strangely, it’s an endless process.
I don't think you are supposed to grow up. I think that is an arbitrary rule made up by people a long time ago.
It is essential that we play more. Have fun, find the joy in small things etc etc.
Heheheheh small things
Sorry I just wanted to be included
@TheBreadmonkey
You never *have* to grow up. Growing up means you get stodgy and boring.
You only have to be a responsible adult when it comes to bills and childcare, the rest of the time you can be what you want.
if it helps clear things up, I can't dance either . . .
@TheBreadmonkey The first sign is when you get your adult legs. Have you got your adult legs yet?
I've endured & survived, & like to think I've matured, despite claims from those who know me well. I've developed "wisdom"—all too late—yet I'm still a fool. I've definitely mellowed, is that grown up?
*oh alright, I'm still immature
In my experience, those who are on the spectrum retain their childlike qualities, in the best possible way, into adulthood more so than neurotypicals do.
I think it's an achievement, I think, to stay soft and full of wonder and curiosity in a world that remorselessly seeks to make you hard, cynical and misanthropic.
@TheBreadmonkey
- You have to ask the elders of the tribe.
- But doctor, I'm the elder of the tribe.
@TheBreadmonkey it's when all your potential collapse into one actual fig. Sometimes no actual figs.
Is it something you grow into
Is it thrust upon you
Do you want it
Is it necessary
Tune in tomorrow 😆
@TheBreadmonkey we have seen people in all walks of life, including some with significant structural power, and as far as we can tell there is not a single adult anywhere in the world.
it isn't a thing you become or are. it's, at best, a thing you do, and it takes active effort the whole time, and nobody can do it all the time.
@TheBreadmonkey I think there must be a form to fill in. And you may have to cut out some coupons.
