"CVE-2026-99999" is the fakest sounding CVE name. That is like Hideo Kojima or Kotaro Uchikoshi had just learned what a "CVE" is and decided to write a plot point about a macguffin mega-CVE that is going to cause enormous problems for the protagonists
@mcc that's more or less exactly how I felt when I saw it
@mcc I love that it's CVSS is also 9, although I'd hoped for 9.9 instead of 9.8
@mcc I was about to say “bad day to be a protagonist” but they’re mostly bad days to be a protagonist, aren’t they
@mcc I see five 9s, can't be that bad?
@mcc CVE-2026-99999 is also known as PwnEscape, a very real vuln that enables KVM guest to host escape. https://heise.de/-11492399
I wonder if MITRE is going to sell vanity CVEs at some point in the future.

“A guy with a wrench may obtain your private keys”
cutscene starts
@mcc Even the number sounds like a final boss.
@mcc we finally found the last vulnerability! 100% progress achievement unlocked
@mcc The CVE you find a Python file in the tests/ directory.
@mcc Reads like a fake CVE too. "Cause a bunch of mischief"? "reporoduced"?
@fraggle @mcc Linux CVE descriptions are generated directly from the commitmsg. https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=0fab003ef4698e0628060a45a48f14b43ba2a40a
Typos do happen.
@christopherkunz @fraggle wait, i don't think i get what you mean by this
scp-wiki ass number assignment
@mcc i want to borrow this for any future numeric burns I happen to need
@mcc still more 9s than github
@mcc It's the King of Fighters CVE
