RE: https://mastodon.social/@mcc/117474803359072513
I can see the Mastodon 5.0 re-design is going as exactly as expected.
hasn't hit me here, yet.
Redirector glitched out and I accidentally looked at new mastodon.social despite my best efforts.
…
lololol *seriously*?! *That's* what advanced mode looks like?!
@theruran yes, this is the thing. could everyone please just stop changing things that are basically fine. like, change something that isn't fine. change something that is actively so bad that everyone notices how bad it is every time they use it. no one uses mastodon and thinks "i wish this was harder to see and had different corners"
@theruran (also like, if i wanted the mastodon advanced UI but with rounded corners and composing a post makes it hard to see other things at the same time, phanpy is _right here_. and it's fine! it's fine. i just don't go around thinking about how the masto project should emulate those qualities from other things.)
@theruran design is an evil cult.

the stated rationale for rounded corners everywhere was, in part, because web browsers are doing it, and the Mastodon team wants the UI to look more "native".
and boy.. just kinda sounds like bullshit. I am certain many Mastodon users would jump for joy if they went the other way and made everything rectangles with sharp corners.
or, you know, stop fucking around with the UI and our use habits so much.
