I'm contemplating running an intro to #OpenStreetMap event in my local area. It'd be for absolute beginners. Has anyone done something like that and can give advice/tips?
@slowe not sure where your focus will be (editing or consuming), but in my use of OSMand for navigation, the main feedback I get is "does it show traffic?", which is a deal breaker on the consumer side for drivers. I get more positive feedback when using it out of signal range (local maps) and when walking, as the footway data is excellent.
@slowe the best entry point is @streetcomplete IMHO. A bit later also combined with @everydoor . Both are on the smartphone.
For Computer I would explain #iDEditor in combination with the #openstreemap website. Both in the webbrowser.
Also some routeplanning websites are motivating to show
@jakobmiksch @slowe @streetcomplete @everydoor I showed loads of apps people might already know which use OSM without them being aware of it.
For StreetComplete: maybe wait until the iOS version is officially available on the App Store so that potentially your whole audience can download it.
@PattaFeuFeu @jakobmiksch @streetcomplete @everydoor Yes, I'm patientlywaiting for the iOS version of StreetComplete as it'll let a bunch of people take part.
@slowe @streetcomplete The latest beta has been nothing but solid for me, so I’m really looking forward to sharing the public version with loads of people!
