Need a logo for #AlpineBSD, any artsy types want to take a crack at it?
@drew i wonder, has anybody ever asked #NetBSD to reconsider the "core can approve slop" clause, or to publish some info on whether core has approved #slop so far?
sounds quite cool though! I'm still hoping somebody might fork an older #Linux #kernel - might be hard to keep that going but it would send a sign.
#LLM #NoSlop #ensloppification #AI #NoAI #FreeSoftware #FOSS #FLOSS #OpenSource
@ell1e @drew They have not done so since the policy was clarified in 2024.
Anyway, it needs clarifying again, since there's some third-party code we're not necessarily ready to remove, upstream has accepted AI contributions, it needs updates, and the decision between shipping slop and shipping vulnerable code to users is a huge catch-22.
@drew Relatedly, I'm also looking for an artist to draw a logo for #s6 !
s6 is a process supervision suite that has grown into a complete init system (incidentally the one #AlpineBSD is using).
Ideally the logo would represent a young striped wild boar, as cute as you can make it.
(The main author of a well-known init system once called s6 a "dependency hog".)
@selea @drew I wish, but it is hard for me to find free time right now to make something of quality.
And I already promised to work on https://codeberg.org/LibreLingoRelive/LibreLingoRelive/issues/64 first. But I'll follow the steps of AlpineBSD.
I'm on my own NetBSD sidequest, but I lag too with the priority to the production of the weekly comic script - https://www.unitedbsd.com/d/1708-netbsd-trouble-booting-via-usb-pen-drive-netbsd-110-amd64-usb-image
Also, I'm studying right now a migration to https://www.humanscommons.org/
On X11 it at least shows some signs of life, but on wayland absolutely nothing
@elly @drew @selea Good to see, and yes, that's to be expected for Wayland, as many things for drawing-tablets were delegated to libinput and the compositor and the D.E itself; while all was more centralized on X11.
I'll check how X11 NetBSD works, very curious to get a machine with that. I'm working on it (on week-end, so slowly).
Thank you for your reply!
Hope that things sort itself out for you so you can find time for things you enjoy!
@drew
Depending on how iterative you like your logotypes and isotypes here are some quick scribbles, which is just rearranging the existing visual identity of the other projects into one.
This is the type of thing that would less require someone to doodle designs and more having some broad goal of what the identity/message could be like.
