So how many FOSS orgs are choosing to not use genAI at all? Obviously I know @spritely takes that stance, because I work there.
But who else?
Godot, maybe? (They played with it for a bit then enacted a policy against it, IIRC.) The Document Foundation, though I am not sure by what degree? Zig, certainly.
But who else? The room seems to be shrinking, alas :\
@be @cwebber @spritely I was keeping an eye on https://codeberg.org/ethical-foss/ai-free-foss-alternatives for a while (big list of OSS that's gone to slop), but I feel like it would be easier to keep a list of projects that have taken a strong stance *against* AI at this point. The list is getting long indeed and most things don't seem to have alternatives :(

They are working towards a permanent policy using their consensus process. No ETA on that but the majority are in favor of a strong permanent prohibition.

@cwebber I assume you mean not using it directly at all? Or are you including all dependencies? I suspect the latter is close to impossible already :-/
@tisba I mean not using it in any way that advances it. Sadly, we are all stuck on top of rotting foundations right now, as even GCC and LLVM are accepting vibey patches.
@tisba And by that I mean, don't use it to produce any output by anyone within the org, or within the projects they run, to the extent that it's their domain
@cwebber not a whole org, but some ASF projects are not having it (CouchDB, PouchDB, no surprises here :)

@cwebber @spritely Ive got the pet theory that the larger the FLOSS Org, the harder it is to achieve consensus on the subject; which kind of defaults to the Debian stance.
AND the difference between "FLOSS Org" and small group of hackers who work on code and have enough organization to take donations.... gets kind of fuzzy when you look at the smaller scale.
@trashheap @cwebber @spritely yep exactly. Any large group of people that formed before the onslop cannot be expected to have consensus on banning slop.
