@jwildeboer the solution is actually very easy, require new industries to have the requirement to produce, in-house, half of the electricity they need. Only from renewable sources. You can build mills or PV, if you fail to do so you can buy this electricity from the market at a premium.

What kind of data centers? Normal ones are manageable, but AI data centers are annoying.
They suddenly ramp up and then wind down just as fast, creating unpredictable spikes on the grid.
Power stations will either need to run above demand or grid operators risk brown outs.

@jwildeboer I'm curious: what services will these data centers deliver that are directly or indirectly of benefit for me or our society? Or in other words: what luxury or convenience would I have to opt out of, in order to not be a part of the demand/problem?

I am perfectly willing to go back to buying or renting DVDs and CD's instead of streaming. I can also do very well without ANY kind of AI and I have already started moving away from cloud storage.
