Seeing everyone vibe code their "photoshop killer" or "ableton killer" when free and open source perfectly cromulent alternatives have already existed for years gave me one of several realisations:
The software itself isn't the solution. You need to have a userbase and supportive community around your software/tool to see any level of success. And these one-shot attempts just ain't it.
@hellocatfood 'photoshop killer' that will be out of support in 4 weeks when the author gets a different hyperfocus is no different from my 'shoot em up attempt 46' on github with the only difference that it was possible to create a prototype fast with claude.
@aetios @hellocatfood the photoshop cloner guy apparently is an experienced software engineer, maybe it will work out. maybe not. I vibed my own graphical editor for very specific uses and it taught me a lot about how difficult it is to make a video editor. if he is really just vibing it it's going to be TOTAL shit. such a project needs a real software engineer.
