You don't need "alexa" or "siri" if you have a cat. You can say the cats name and all kinds of things will happen.
Probably not what you want, but it's still a kind of "voice interface"
And you still have a "she who will not be named"

@futurebird Nour is trying to secure care for his daughter Masa for her cancer. This already is a big ask.
To do so in war-torn Palestina is a mountainous hurdle. But like all those other pleas, it must ring.

@futurebird I have a home security/home automation system at home. My lights etc are linked tirelessly to motion detectors.
Alexa, Google and Siri *CAN* automate the lights when we're away from home but I use a more random technology. A Chaotic Activation Trigger on the motion sensors..or C.A.T. for short 😁
No would be thief/burglar is going to detect any schedule or timing with the way the lights go on and off in our house :)
I will never have an Alexa (Amazon) device snooping in my home. Or Claude.
Menhit is only 14 and fit for her age so I hope she sticks around for many more years, but in event of a new cat moving in, I *will* name her/him after one of those voice asses. Endless fun for visitors/vets!
@futurebird
My brother has an Alexa. Every time we visit he spends 5 mins trying to get it to play music. I’m sure there was an easier way years ago but what do I know?!
@Pinchy63 @futurebird Real conversation at a friend's place:
- Alexa, play Frank Sinatra.
- There's an issue with the Wi-Fi.
Another time same week-end:
- Alexa, play Frank Sinatra.
- Frank Sinatra is already playing on another device, would you like to resume playback here?
- Yes.
- There's an issue with the Wi-Fi.
@futurebird It can't be less reliable than Google Gemini.

Our local garden centre has a knowledgeable employee.
Others are quite likely to say "Alexa, where is ..."
Familiarity with American software is not as wide among those who deal mainly with real things as some assume.
