Does anyone know of an article that explains why someone might want to publish their blog or newsletter into the social web, and explains the basics of how to do that? Using simple, clear language that non-geeks with no prior knowledge of decentralised tech or social web networks can easily make sense of.

This is *exactly" the kind of thing I had in mind. Thanks heaps.
Sadly I suspect my outreach emails often end up filtered to spam because I'm using an email address under my own domain, and a community-hosted SMTP server. All the more so if I include an links. Although maybe less so because I (try to) send plaintext email.
Hopefully linking to a 'mainstream' domain like WordPress.com will help : )

Certainly related, and it's good article for evangelising the fediverse to people whose eyes don't glaze over when they see an acronym like RSS.
But it's not quite what I'm looking for. To avoid preaching to the choir, we need to focus on the benefits for the reader, and HowTos in the form of simple, step-by-step instructions. With links to more detailed help.
@strypey @johnonolan @writefreely we made a landing page on WordPress.com https://wordpress.com/social-web/ and produced an awesome video series with @docpop that explains the fediverse in general but we also talk about the blogging part: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6nDc7ACvovJMt8MEiebpsXnlBuKp158j
