One of the goals of AI is, to make you give up on your own projects.
If it is "just" a project, you are contributing to, you probably are going to leave.
But if it is your own project, don't give up because others seemingly progress much faster.
Some day, LLMs will be as expensive as hiring a top-tier developer with similar costs per month.
Don't give up before that.
@AdeptVeritatis @concretedog @f4grx @freecad I'm not sure if you are aware that I'm the maintainer of a somewhat popular open source project myself, that I've been doing that for almost 14 years now, 10 of that self employed, and that I'm doing my best to not get broken by this crap. It's tough. Not because of others being faster or something like this, but because I see cognitive effects, quality effects and in general what it does to society.
So far I endure.
I keep thinking about my post-tech options; even as someone who doesn't have to *use* any of this shit, the entire culture is demotivating and makes me feel unwanted.
BUT, I know we're not alone, we're a community, and that's what they really want us to forget. We'll keep each other going. ✊️
@freecad I am VERY SAD to see claude commits in your repo, and that you dont have a restrictive anti-ai policy.
We are now forced to eat your slop and there is no free alternative.
I feel betrayed. It's not better than user capture by proprietary software tools.
this is very very disappointing and stressful. I cannot recommend freecad to anyone.
