In 2021, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs commissioned a small team to work out how public investment in open digital infrastructure could be designed. Five years and over 110 investments later, that feasibility study has evolved into the Sovereign Tech Agency, strengthening the people behind the code that powers our economy, digital sovereignty, and AI.

To celebrate this milestone, more than 150 long-time partners, policy makers, open source maintainers, and leaders from government, industry, civil society, and research gathered in Berlin on Monday. It was a wonderful evening, opened by Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (@BMDS) with inspiring talks and conversations reflecting on our journey and looking toward the future of open source infrastructure.
