Whenever I let my cats out at night I tell them "drive safe, drink responsibly, call me if you need a pickup". My family thinks I'm daft but if you have cats I'm sure you'll understand me.
@fesshole is this about cats or AI?
@fesshole
I love cats, but there is one in our neighbourhood that is the most efficient killer I have ever known.
Comes in our garden and loves to catch woodpigeons. Leaves blood, feathers and chaos all over the place.
Basically rips out their throats. I know his because I have to clean it all up. It is upsetting to see and deal with. Particularly as we deliberately make our garden wildlife friendly.
No idea whose cat it is, but it wears a tracker, so they know where it hangs out
@fesshole sometimes cats have to go out for a rip
@fesshole I think it is more responsible and better for the cats and neighbors and local birds and rodents to just keep your cats in!
@fesshole
For years, family & friends thought I was joking when... every time I left the house... I shouted to my cat: "Stay off the computer!"
...till I showed them this photo:
@fesshole Cats these days... when I was young they knew how to behave like proper felines, you know? But nobody is teaching them anything anymore, are they.
@fesshole I’m sure the cats heed your advice as much as teenagers do.
@fesshole I get it! My cats used to bring me dead birds, mice and even moles every time they went out.
@fesshole This comment thread is splitting Mastodon into pro/against outdoor cat camps.
Get your stinky hands off our outdoor cats and stay inside yourself! (My cat is an indoor cat ironically)
@fesshole
Free roaming cats wreak havoc on ecosystems.
@fesshole I tell my cat to be a good girl while I'm gone every time I leave for work. I get it.
@fesshole I’m of the strong opinion that cats should be kept indoors, although I realize it’s not always possible to switch an adult cat over.
@fesshole Note to self: introduce coyotes to England.
@pencilears @fesshole To kill cats? What is this comment
@Gargron @fesshole
Considering the number of invasive species that have been purposefully introduced to N. America (and elsewhere) from Britain, that cause problems for our native wildlife, I am joking that they need one that might give them a reason to keep their cats indoors.
Obviously introducing coyotes would also be bad for Scottish wildcats, among other wild animals, but historically they did have wolves, and maybe they should again, if it gave them a reason to keep cats inside.
@Gargron @pencilears @fesshole My first thought was it's a reference to this:
@fesshole When I leave the house, I tell our two cats, "Bye babies, no parties, be good."
Near as I can tell, this works. No evidence of feline partying thus far.
