I heard some people say that if there is one photo of you online then it doesn't matter if you post more "since your face is already in their system" they say this to feel better about posting lots of photos and video.
However this isn't true. Less information is better. If there are only a few photos of you then you can know which one someone was using, and photos grow out of date with time.
Less is better unless you have a good reason to put your face out there. It's not futile.
@futurebird Exactly. Especially as there is surveillance software based on movements like mimics. The more selfies the programme can use, the more individual the recognition.
And another thing: You only need some selfies (the more the better) to fake an AI generated video. Looks horribly realistic!
@futurebird I met with a 20-smth couple to adopt their dog, they could not afford to keep. While he and I were chatting, she was wandering around taking a ton of pics. I asked him to request she not post any pics of me on the online forum where we'd met, as I was very careful about not putting my face online. He thought I was screwy, but they did as I asked. This was in 2011, and obviously everything's gone downhill exponentially since.
I appreciate it when people make that argument because it really simplifies the effort of evaluating any other claims they might make.
@futurebird also, upload faces that aren’t yours so it buries the signal in amongst the noise.

It should be a considered, informed choice. Every action carries consequences, positive and negative. There may be a couple pics of me out there, but I keep it limited.
Same applies to digital security. I run a tight ship, but it's imperfect due to convenience and mental bandwidth. That imperfection doesn't invalidate the approach.
Everything's like that. Billions of people making "nothing" changes can substantially improve the world.
@futurebird It’s also a function of how the software works. Every additional photo identified to you improves the model of your face that they are reconstructing. More data means less noise.
@futurebird one use case for generative AI is to constantly post subtly edited photos of yourself on the internet. Just move your features closer or further apart to mess with the biometric data they are keeping on you. Fill the room with shit.
@futurebird There’s a lot that can be deduced from a photo: digital metadata, background, other people in the photo...
That said, if you see a photo of me on Facebook, I did not authorize it, don't know about it, and want it reported and taken down.

@futurebird It's just like how cell phone towers can pinpoint your location if you connect to enough of them.
Increasing the volume of data and the angles from which it can be seen exponentially increases the amount of information you can learn.
