plus the entire point of modern cloud infrastructure ala kubernetes and others is to be somewhat independent of any particular physical locationCan't say that this is the Russia's case - there are no independence from physical location. Since 2010 there were accepted a lot of laws which centralizes Internet&services (like Alice AI) inside the state and creates single points-of-failure, instead of truly distributed architecture - in disguise of "independence from West" and "creating fully domestic and robust network" (lmao). Plus, there are no Yandex datacenters outside of country and it is not so easy to buy/build new one (because of sanctions).
I found it funny that people are fighting disinformation with misinformationYandex is not just indexing the Internet. This was true maybe 15-20 years ago. Nowadays, as we know from some leaked documents from Roskomnadzor, it helps to censorship the Internet and provides their services (search, LLMs, free access to user's data for the state, etc) to automatically monitor the Russian segment of Internet to prosecute the people for the wrongthinking.

How much truth to that
Truth is: none
@gabboman yeah, i was wondering how much truth there is to that. it's just too tempting for progressives to believe that solving the problem with authoritarian parties is as simple as unplugging some computers somewhere, completely ignoring the very real interest of very real people supporting these movements in very real life. plus the entire point of modern cloud infrastructure ala kubernetes and others is to be somewhat independent of any particular physical location
