Occasionally I'm asked why I use *many* hash tags on #Fediverse. Typically every non-“quiet public”/PM post of mine has at least one hashtag.
I do this is b/c of the difficulty of topic discovery on Fediverse. The federated nature means, as we all know, no algorithm is pushing content at users. But, speaking at least for myself, I *want* content about topics that interest me pushed at me, & that's what hashtags can do.
I am curious though if Fedi experts like @cwebber & @evan agree with this.

Since I'm co-server administrator for fedi.copyleft.org, I just fully added the relay. Sorry I didn't notice this before in the tags.pub instructions!
Also, I cannot help but type "tags.pug", as someone who has cared for multiple pugs since 2011. I include for you circa 2013 picture of Alfie 🕯️🤍.
Admittedly, Alfie would not have liked Fediverse as it would provide him neither ice nor food, which were the main things he wanted all day.

And BTW, so sorry you have (at least 3x, that I saw) had to deal with haters who don't do their homework on what the implications are of publishing content publicly on the Internet under a freely-redistributable license means, and then misdirect their anger at themselves (for not doing their homework) toward you merely because you run an essential service for the Fediverse.
@bkuhn thank you! I feel like part of providing a public service is listening to people's concerns, even if they're sometimes nasty.
And I'm sorry you have haters for publishing AI guidelines! I think you handled that really well.
@evan @bkuhn looking through the website, it seems very clear to me that you listened to people's concerns re: privacy and I appreciate that! I can understand if people are uncomfortable with their server having opted in without their knowledge, but tbh that seems like a problem with the server not telling them 🤷 it seems a good compromise between privacy and discoverability, and it's cool that individual users can override their server defaults.
