@cabel hitting the aviation world now: https://avbrief.com/under-the-bridge-departure-makes-waves-in-portland/
(reminds me of a lacamas lake float plane fatality in the 90s)
@cabel I shared this with a pilot friend, and he said that takeoff wouldn’t be technically too difficult, but would require a lot of math in advance. When I expressed doubt that the pilot did the math, he disagreed saying that plane is too expensive to not have done it. He looked up the registration number and said it’s owned by a Seattle LLC, likely a rich Amazon or Microsoft owner.
@cabel It's in the Oregonian now! Nice hero shot of you in the article, btw. 🤩
@cabel you made it to Reddit, the av geeks will probably have lots of info about wtf. https://reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/1x2mddx/daher_kodiak_100_floatplane_takes_off_from_the/
@cabel someone probably said something, but as a float pilot, I can tell you that’s illegal af. You can get up on step and fast taxi under a bridge, but you can’t lift off until you’re out the other side and have enough room to fly above any other obstacles. It’s kind of a crowded looking area to be speed taxiing too, but I can’t see the situation completely.
@cabel kinda looks dangerous.
@cabel Wow. Going under the Hawthorne Bridge is a … choice
@cabel sometimes you just want to /fly/
@cabel @creideiki I like how he wanted to take off more steeply but then changed his mind and then flew below the bridge instead and then rotated fully.
Scary stuff.
@cabel Not exactly the highest of bridges to pull that maneuver under…
@cabel Just saw this video (credited to you) on Inside Edition.
