EV Stupidity Checklist
@pvanb At least it looks like it might be mechanical.
@siracusa my Rivian R2 does not score well on this checklist 😬😞 would be a perfect car if it did.
@siracusa Think you might need to add “start/stop button visible to driver” to the checklist.
Maybe you’d get used to it, but steering column….? Weird.
(Yes - know it’s where we all used to insert the key, but keys and buttons are different. )
@siracusa There’s certainly enough buttons on the steering wheel!😵
@siracusa It's got more physical buttons than the current ICE only Tiguan!
@siracusa if they can pass the lessons they’ve learned here onto Audi asap that would be nice
@siracusa Wait, does this car have buttons? That can’t be right.

@siracusa my wife bought a 2026 Toyota C-HR and it is missing the physical fan speed control, the temp control is pseudo physical: it's a knob that changes a software setting, and has no glove box at all, but the arm rest storage can be hinged open from either the drive or passenger seat and there's a storage area under the phone chargers and gear selector in the center console area, but still annoying. Otherwise it eschews EV weirdness. Bonus missing feature: no rear wiper, maybe something to add to your list
@siracusa I have an ID.4, for me it’s mostly ok, but what I found infuriating is the two windows buttons to control the four windows. That’s plain stupid.
@siracusa I considered the id4 when I bought my EV and discarded it due to VW weird decisions.
mine has normal handles and lock buttons.
i do have touchscreen controlled A/C, which I dislike.
@siracusa having a new ID3.Neo since last week, which uses the same platform and their new design principles as the new Tiguan, I can confirm it’s a pleasure to use and checks all your boxes. Really happy to have an EV without those futuristic gimmicks. Real door handles! Physical buttons on the steering wheel and for the main controls! No shiny black plastic (except on the key…)
@siracusa Automakers are starting to figure out that many people want normal cars that have electric drive trains, not an “EV” where everything is stupid for no reason.
@siracusa I assume we have things like Euro NCAP 2026 to thank for these buttons. Woo!
@siracusa I am cautiously optimistic.
@dmoren Four window switches for four windows! Air vents you move with your own hands! Normal door handles! (At least the door handles look normal, anyway…)
@siracusa @dmoren plus physical buttons on the steering wheel* you can easily identify by touch alone, MagSafe pucks to hold the phone in place… and the VW DCC air dampening and LED matrix lights are amazing. Very likely my next car. I’ll charge at home so I could not care less about charging speed or battery size tbh. (*yes John, wheel is a bit too square, I’ll admit it…)
@siracusa Not so sure about those interior handles though 😬 https://youtu.be/mKEYjj0cp9g?si=jcQr9oww8fA5VAaS&t=217
