So RIP Deno… They are stopping work on the runtime over the next 12 months.
I was hoping that we could some day have a Node.js alternative with a more modern interface/tooling, but with this and Bun now being part of Anthropic and vibe-(re)coded to the extreme, it does not seem it will happen.

… and I was quite right to be doubtful of the longevity of those 2 at the start, they both raised money and I could not see how they could continue to exists long-term and keep their investors happy.

@renchap I am rooting for Kenton's work on Durable Objects and Cloudflare OS, so this isn't really sad news for me, but it definitely sucks for anyone heavily invested in Deno. Of which I also know some folks.

@renchap It's always about the money. I'm always shocked by how many in the tech universe are so naive about the fact that they actually have to go to market and make money. It's all altruistic and don't be evil until you get the electric bill. I'm just wondering when BlueSky's day of reckoning will be.

@mike @renchap bluesky took millions of dollars in funding from this company called blockchain capital (and didn't reveal it for months!!) so that has day has already passed i feel

@citrusui @renchap I knew of that, I'm just wondering how the funders are justifying the investment. Will the ensitification day come with a bang or is it already happening behind the scenes with data collection.
