Building this casting software and I stg men who only want to play cis straight men are going to be the death of me.
(this game has limited slots for people who only want to play cis straight people; _you_ don't need to be cis _nor_ straight, but if you aren't willing to play outside of that we have like four characters who can be cis straight men)
My actual ultimate goal here is to write a general casting system that is configurable per game with something like a YAML file.
But I'm starting with this game.
For it I have a series of likert scale questions, some multi-selects, etc.
I'm coding that and then feeding it into pumpkin-solver and basically solving a giant constraint problem across either 24 or 44 characters (depending on the specifics of the game).
This allows me to do things like say "exclude people from characters who exceed their content warning threshold" and "try to match their character preferences as closely as possible."
So part of this is trying to align to people's gender and orientation preferences.
But most of the characters are not cis straight men. So if that's all you are willing to play, it does somewhat limit the options here.

The casting software is pretty flexible and so far has been pretty good at figuring out good matches.
But then you get a curveball like "two people qualify for exactly one character and no one else on the roster."
Because even once you get past the low number who are cis het men, most of the time they have some _other_ factor that renders most of them unplayable to that person. Not aligning with the themes they want to play with, or content warnings they aren't willing to deal with.
For example in this case one of those characters has 4/5 and 4/5 content warnings for physical and emotional abuse (victim), and a lot of people aren't willing to deal with that.
That's understandable! But that's one of your handful of options who can be cis straight men.
