RE: https://cosocial.ca/@mhoye/117582652112024853
I know what I'll be doing:
Continuing to code what I want to code, and releasing it under a copyleft/"viral" license (where previously I was defaulting to MIT) ... not that that achieves anything these days. But it's not about that. It's about potentially finding humans who want to work collaboratively.
As a social experiment it's obvious by now that "classic" FOSS has failed.
That is, on the terms of the Free Software nor Open Source movements - either one, in a practical sense it has not turned out to be a difference that's mattered at all - the fundamental argument that access to the text of the software will be liberatory for the people subject to the decisions made in that software has proven, with some rare and privileged exceptions, to be false.
The question is what do we do next.
@kboyd Pivoting to copyleft seems reasonable. One question for you in particular is whether this is intended to be sufficiently viral to preclude use of a lib in closed software or just to force contributing back improvements. Obviously either is fine...you're the maintainer...but the latter is closer to "leave it better than you found it"
