Import your Google Maps reviews to Mangrove
Did you review places via Google Maps in the past? @mangroveReviews@mas.to now offers a way to import your past reviews, which means they will also appear in CoMaps in future maps!

Eh deleted all my reviews after google accepted a claim that my 3* review of one shitty ass shop in Germany was defamation, ignored my response and removed it. Hell, I’d argue it was net positive review (otherwise not wouldn’t be a 3* IMO), but the abuse of the system in Germany is wild and clearly Google doesn’t give a fuck just like the rest of their products.
Anyway still waiting for opportunity to “transfer” all my photos from google maps. Ever since they changed what counts as storage use in drive, I’ve used maps to store useful or nice photos from hikes/parks/nature that I didn’t necessarily wanna keep stored on the phone.
Edit: ooh this also does mention the export/import of photos. Guess I gotta try it!
Is there interop with OSM? Happy to see CC ownership of community work. OSM currently does the whole review thing, I’d love to see them work together
OSM doesn’t do any sort of reviews. This does interop in that all the reviewable places are places from the OSM database.
Reviews are out of scope for OSM
@mangroveReviews@mas.to could you expand on what happens exactly when reviews are imported in for a POI that doesn’t exist in OpenStreetMap? I did see this portion: " Otherwise it is the first review of the place, at Google’s position.", but could you give more details?

Nope, as the rights to the reviews lay with the authors (when adding reviews to Mangrove you publish them under a Creative Commons license)

Aw man, now I almost regret deleting most of my 100+ reviews after they changed the name of Lake Ontario.
All 12 of my reviews are imported. It’s not much, but it’s honest work!

What about reviews that are 12 years old, are they still worth the upload? Will it use the original date?
