Should I continue with merephone, what hardware would I need/want?
* SAMD21 microcontroller
* cellular modem e.g. u-blox SARA-R410M-02B
* SD card & slot
* battery
* USB port (type B or C)
* solar panel (avoid a need to charge)
* buttons
* nav-switch
* 4-gray epaper display
* front-facing LEDs (in place of backlight, for nighttime use)
* ArduCam
* camera-flash LED
* NFC
* near-ear speakers
* louder speakers
* microphone
* headphone jack
And I hard someone wanted radio?

@alcinnz Just a thought, Could skip all audio hw with bluetooth. I do this with the pi zero quite often.
@mrcopilot I don't currently have Bluetooth. And I'd still have the question of how to route the I2S digital-audio bus I'm provided to Bluetooth.
@alcinnz I use a 802.11n/bt dongle.
There is various kit to do the i2s to bt automagically if you don't want to get your hands dirty in firmware yet.

As I'm building the hardware I'm finding that I'm a total novice making novice mistakes. But I know enough to push through!
Regarding that sound system... I know that such cellular modems can stream phone calls on a I2S digital audio bus. Which I'd want to wire up near-directly to a selection of speakers/mics! I'd probably need a suitable DAC & ADC?
But how to choose good speakers for this project? Can I wire volume controls directly up to an amp? Can I get cheap radio?
