Stephen Miller Chief of Staff, what. What a terrible lame duck this is going to be.
If Republicans who barely kept their seats this midterm aren't willing to face this political suicide in the form of the Miller appointment by teaming up with Democrats for a presidential ouster, they are done politically. At the very least, if they want to continue their careers, an actual spine seems necessary.
@MargaretSefton
I'm wondering if they can't start by impeaching Miller. Doesn't this promote him to an impeachable office..?
@TerryHancock As a presidential appointee, as opposed to one who would need Senate approval, I don't think so. Though there is apparently some debate. I wish.
@TerryHancock I think what will likely happen if all the players remain locked in is an imperial president with a henchman chief of staff and few breaks from the supreme court. (Often, federal state courts and appeals courts have been a godsend.) It would be nice if congress had more power, but Trump holds the veto. If Republican players start to see the political writing on the wall for themselves in terms of their own longevity and decide to work with Democrats, things may go down for real.
I have the feeling though that with midterm wins, elected officials of states and cities could have real clashes with Miller pogroms which interfere with local and state economies.
