What's the next bubble going to be (yeah yeah, it's multiple choice)

@cwebber Did nobody else vote for "biological brains on a chip"? What's that even supposed to mean? It's just so fucking dumb that it must be the next bubble! So basically the same as before but we need to sink lots of money into Nvidia again because as it turns out graphics cards are just the right tool for research here.... Again...
@cwebber I'd like to say ads, I think there's way more ads than the value of ads and has been for decades, but sadly I don't think it's going to happen yet :/
@cwebber quantum whatever
@cwebber I mean, the current bubble is already surveillance. They're just calling it "AI". It's an easy pivot and requires no extra steps.
@cwebber AI, but called something different.
@cwebber i think tulips are long overdue for a comeback
@cwebber Perpetual motion machines.
Or tulips. We haven't had tulips for a while.
@cwebber I thought the whole “AI” bubble was literally eugenics already…?
Here's my pitch: soap bubble.
Everybody starts investing weird amounts of money in soap, to the point that normal people can't take showers or wash clothes or dishes.
@cwebber Gambling except they'll call it "prediction markets"
Can we try nanotech again? Maybe with a new name?
Fusion is in the running.
Otherwise, finding new ways to get people pay for their own surveillance. That market may look saturated but it's sort of like climate change - the worst it's ever been is also the floor for what comes next.
Maybe we'll finally get that generation of safe computers that are safe only from their users. But there I digress.
/grouch (I'm actually relatively cheerful these last few days. Normal programming will resume shortly.)
@cwebber it feels unfair to blame cowboyneal for the bubble he inevitably causes.
@cwebber Why not Bubble Man?
