Poll: Imagine you needed, *tomorrow*, to get started on getting yourself a working "mesh networking" setup, and you needed it working by next week. Would you even know how to start?
@mcc I said I know where to start by which I mean I know what search terms would tell me where to where to start, and what people I could ask for help
dunno if that counts but I feel like it does bc I have confidence I could figure it out x)
@mcc I would Google "meshtastic", so I guess that's a starting point
@mcc just as an anecdotal data point, I have had a lot of success with tp-link deco mesh “routers” (scare quotes because I’m no longer sure whether what I thought the word meant is correct or relevant since I last took a networks class in like 2003)
@ibroadfo_ebooks Wait. Can those run in a mesh networking standard mode, or do you just mean they are literally an example of a mesh network?
@mcc unfortunately they have worked magically enough for me to not actually know how they work! I don’t believe they can be dropped into a heterogeneous network if that’s the goal
@mcc All I really need to know is, locally, should I go Meshcore or Meshtastic, and why the hell doesn't someone make them interoperable?
1) Go to the nearest shop and buy the hardware?
@jcurioso They have SHOPS where you live? 😲 most of ours closed down in the COVID lockdowns
Spanish government made a big effort to keep business afloat and preserve employment, helping them economically and paying workers wages during lockdowns. That made us getting back to previous economical levels faster than other EU countries, it was like somebody pushed a pause button.
Probably that helped computer shops, too, but I don't have data about other countries.
@mcc I have two openwrt routers with one extending range if that's what you mean... I'm pretty sure the number of extenders is sufficiently arbitrary.

Other than that I also have zigbee and matter devices.
